Some things I like about Peru

- it is cheap here...hmm what else.. I have to think hard! lol Well, see below.

I am sitting here by three little creeks. The creeks are what I like most about this little place I am staying in now, called Obrajillo. It is about two and a half hours from Lima. Maybe three from the center of Lima. No one bothers me here. I can play with the water, rearrange how it flows, make little dams and waterfalls and no one cares. No one has even come by here. I was here about three hours yesterday and about two today. One guy went by up above on a horse. I was afraid he was the owner and would complain at first. But I looked up and waved and he waved back. Not that the Peruvians are friendly. I wouldn't say that. But they do usually acknowledge you, then turn their eyes away quickly. At least the ones who live in the country.

Young people get excited to see us

I like how excited students get when they see me or see Jerren and I. Very often they shout out "Hello!" In English. This is what happened on the day Jerren took these pics. We were just walking to the "paradero", the place where the taxis and combis (vans) pick pple up to go to town. This was a school group on a "promotion" trip. Promotion is like graduation. So I guess these would be students in their last year of primary school.

...

Another thing I like is how there is more closeness between students and teachers. (Excepting when the teachers are hitting the students, which also is common outside of the big cities.) For example take a look at this pic. The one on the left is the teacher. The one on the right smiling is her student. A few seconds earlier she was resting her head on the teacher's shoulder. They think nothing of this here, or in Ecuador. But in countries like the USA it would be illegal for a teacher to have this kind of contact with a student. As a result, in countries where there is a lack of touch, young people grow up to be starved for physical connection.

This boy was funny. He was constantly cracking jokes and trying to say things in English. One of the funny things he said was that Micheal Jackson was his father. He was one of the first that called out to us. The smiling girl above was the other most talkative one. The two were teasing each other almost non-stop, both saying how bad the other one was, but both laughing.

My trip to Matucana I had a nice trip to this city outside of Lima. I took a lot of pictures but at the time I only posted small ones. Now I have lost the originals I think. Still they will give you an idea of what it looked like.
