Trip to Matucana, Peru, page 2

On the way out of town. I decided to walk for a while.

The river again.

Large temples or whatever you call them on the side of the mountain. More religous stuff.

A creek I'd like to explore sometime. The place remined me a lot of Canada.

I was in a good mood, waving to everyone, even the police. They were stopping cars to check for papers and when I saw them I waved and said good morning. They were happy to talk to me and we exchanged names and phone numbers. They work here two days a week and in Lima two days a week. They said they would help me find someone to work with me if I decided to try to start something in the area. It is the first time the police have ever let me take their picture. Usually they say it isn't allowed. So I asked them, saying, "Can I take your picture or is it prohibido?" They said it was okay, obviously! The police have been really friendly to me nearly everytime I have talked to them in Peru. Way less arrogant than the ones in the USA, for example. They act pretty much like regular people here as far as I have seeen. (Freddy and Humberto)

Cloud covered mountains in the background.

More mountains, and a typical little adobe house.

Way in the background is the railroad bridge.

Another view of it.

I talked to this guy for a while, then he said he had to get back to work. A water pipe was leaking so he is taking a piece of inner tube and wrapping it around the pipe to seal it.

This is water shooting up from a hose. I had seen lots of this the day before. I learned later it is a way of advertising that they wash trucks

A close up of how they wrap up pipe connections with rubber strips of inner tubes.

A guy named Jose that I chatted with. He told me he studies butterflies and does research for museums or something, but his neighbors latter told me he captures them and sells them overseas illegally!

In the distance a train is going by.

An old highschool in the valley (with no roof). Jose said they would probably give the land to me if I wanted it. Later more people told me the communties just give land away if you ask for it!
