Confused In the past month I started talking to a teenager who feels confused. Now I am seeing more clearly why she feels confused. - Her family members use her and tell her she is "helping" them - She believes in God and Heaven and Hell and believes the following:
If she loved a freind, she would not send them to Hell when they died, but she still believes God would send her to Hell if she died now because she hasn't done anything with her life. Her parents tell her she has a good life and has no reason to be sad or depressed. Her family members make her feel guilty for things that are clearly not her fault. Her school uses her to "help" them with their school functions and then tells her it is her responsibility to help them, thus making her feel guilty for thinking of not helping. She says, "I don't know what I am supposed to feel." She "knows" her parents love her but she doesn't feel accepted or understood by them. She calls her classmates her "friends" when she can't be honest with them and when she fears them and feels intimidated, judged and invalidated by them. She doesn't know any other kind of family relatioships or any other kind of friendships but she knows something is wrong. Yet she cannot find anyone who will validate her feeling that something is wrong. She has started to believe something is wrong with her. But she doesn't know just what it is. |
