Lines in Peru

Lining up in school. Training young people to get used to it.

The lines are so long that people have jobs waiting in line for others who pay them to hold a place for them. This girl, Veronica, works in the lines. She is standing with Katy who is working with me trying to help children like this. We wanted to teach her some English and computer for free but her mother said she had to work in the lines.

 

When she was talking to us the man in the hat on the left came over and hit her and told her to stop talking and get back to work. That is why she is running.

 

I didn't feel good about paying someone else so I could cut in line. But I also didn't want wait and I wanted to help this girl a little. So I gave her two soles so I could get a place in line closer to the door. But even still it took about 45 minutes to get in the bank. People at the end of the line were probably waiting almost 3 hours. Iin the next pic Katy is waiting in the same place in the line while I talked to some more children who and their parents who were working as line waiters. It hurts me to see
