TelCan International/Anton Mendoza

 

I am trying to recover approximately $50 from TelCan (Tel-Can International, Telcan International). Telcan is evidently owned and managed by Anton Mendoza. Most of my interactions have been with Anton, who I originally setup my account with. Anton has been uncooperative and has ignored me, and has apparently directly lied to me. This has been going on for about two years so I decided to create this web page to document my attempt to get my money back.

I sent Anton $50 to open up a "call back" account. In other words, you pay in advance. So if you never make any calls, you have to try to get your money back. Well, I made a couple of calls but I found the service did not meet my needs for international traveling. And then as newer long distance plans offered lower rates, I had even less reason to ever use Telcan.

Eventually I called Anton and asked him to refund me my unused balance, which he agreed to do. I never got the money though. So for about a year I would occasionally remind him to send me my money. At one point he claimed he had sent me a check. When I asked him to see if it had ever cleared his bank, I never heard back from him.

Because I was traveling and had sold my home, I forgot about the whole thing for a while. But recently I contacted Telcan and Anton again. I did not know if Anton was still there, because he email address had changed. But after I wrote to Telcan customer service several times I finally heard from Anton directly. The Telcan employee could have told me after my first email that she would talk directly to Anton, but she never mentioned that he was still there, or who was calling the shots, so I didn't not even know who to protest to.

Here is my reply on August 23, 2000 On I sent them a copy of the original email from them stating the account number, opening balance information, etc. I have not received a reply.

Later I told them I would create a web page and since I noticed they advertise a lot in Latin America, and Anton speaks spanish I told him I spoke Spanish well enough to complain in Spanish as well.

Anton wrote me back in Spanish and basically said "Go to hell. I don't care what you do. You are crazy to come ask for your money after two years."

Later, I will find that email, but for right now I want to get this web page up so it can get listed with the search engines.

I told Anton I would wait about one week to let him think things over before submitting this page to the search engines, actually. Then a week later I told him I was planning to submit it the next day. He wrote back and said he was sending a check that day for 40 dollars to my Florida address. I was in Canada at the time and he had the Canadian address, so I wondered if this was another trick. But I took him at his word and even wrote back and thanked him and apologized for waiting so long and for needing to threaten him.

A few weeks later I was back in Florida and, guess what, no check.

So I tried to email him and now I am getting a message that says there is no such person. I also tried sales and support at telcan.net.

So this is why I have decided to put this web page on the net, as of November 27, 2000.

If you have a complaint with Tel-Can, let me know, I will post it here.

Using their "report a problem" link on their webpage I wrote this:

I got an automatic reply which said your reference number is 1863 and "Please contact a customer representative if the problem is not resolved within 24-hours." But they didn't say how to reach a "customer service representative"

Here is the original email I received from Anton Mendoza. I have tried and tried to get my money, so please don't tell me that it is not your fault that you can't find my account. I am showing you that I had an account with you. Unless you can show me that I spent the money I believe the balance of evidence is in my favor. Why would I make this up all of a sudden? Believe me I did have an account with you and I did not get my unused money back.   Steve Hein
